There's lots of good running routes up Auckland's landmark Mt.Eden
Following Dean Karnazes’ philosophy of “don’t drive to run” I have decided to make one of my longer runs each week an Urban Adventure. I set off today (in pouring rain) with no aim other than “the top of Mt.Albert and then take it from there”. Well, from the summit of Mt.Albert there is a panorama of other volcanic cones, all begging to be bagged. So I followed my nose through reserves I never knew about before today, down back roads, and weaved a route over to Big King and Mt.Eden. On another day, with more time, it’d be easy to add in One Tree Hill, Mt.St. Johns, Mt.Hobson…. the list goes on. So, running in Auckland can actually be fun despite the rain and the traffic…. the secret it seems is to try to get a little lost!

Yes Akld’s volcanic cones are a great training ground- any run where don’t need to drive is a great run in my books
Have you read 50 marathons in 50 days by Dean Karnaze Mal?
was away with friends at the weekend and the book happened to be sitting on table in the living room, so I of course got my head into it and plan to buy it, its full of great ultra running tips, might of use to you
cheers

Funnily enough, I was given a copy of Dean’s book by my wife for Christmas. It came with a note attached “For Information Only. Don’t go getting any ideas”. But unfortunately for Sal the seed that was to become 7in7 was already sown – I just hadn’t got around to telling her about it!
Ahh! I thought so, since you mentioned his name, its a great book and getting it for the tips Dean gives for running. Its great that your wife is supporting you
and its funny how things work out, given a book on running related to the dream idea you had, great minds think alike they say
