Everybody was smiling at the finish line!
Having run just short of 100km in the past 6 days I finished off a tough week with the 24km XTerra race at Riverhead. What a mudbath! The course would have been tough in any conditions but today it was knee deep in mud and slippy as a bucket of eels. OK, confession time…. I broke promises today – the ones I made to both myself and Tim, my physio, about not getting into hard out race mode. The problem was Mark (Snorter) Richardson. I couldn’t seem to shake the bugger off my tail - 2/3 of the way around I was desperate to drop back to training pace, but then I’d hear what sounded like a wounded pig charging up the track behind me (it’s true, Mark snorts when tired!), and would have to put the hammer down again. The last 2 kms were cruel but finally I got away…. not that it really mattered to me! Another great Total Sport event – thanks fellas.
