Auckland City from Chelsea Sugar Works - sweet!
I’ve only ever lived on the south side of the harbour bridge and see the North Shore as alien territory. But in the quest for new places to run I brushed off my passport and took it for a spin over The Bridge this morning. And there awaited two very nice surprises… firstly I discovered that Homo Northshorius only has one head, and secondly there are some great running tracks over there. Armed with a road map that didn’t show the bush tracks I dived into bush and took my chances. Wow! tall kauri trees, vibrant bird life, no sound of traffic… was this really The City or had I entered a portal and been spirited to the west coast? With only a minimum of road running I put together a really cool 19km loop that took in, amongst other things, the Chelsea Sugar Works and its historic surroundings – something I see from across the water most days but have only ever visited once before! Yep, it sure does pay to go exploring on your runs every now and again.
