Dennis and the R44, pictured at Wanaka Airport
Success at last…. after chasing dozens of dead ends we have finally found a Good Samaritan who is prepared to fly me from Karamea (end of the Heaphy) to Glenorchy (start of Routeburn), thus saving a 12-hour overnight dash in the van. The good man is Wanaka resident and keen amateur pilot Dennis, who we found via my pilates instructor Angela, who had a friend (Steph), who had a husband (Steve) who happens to know Dennis….. a great example of networking in action! Steve is himself a pilot at Wanaka Helicopters and is one of those people who has an infectious enthusiasm for adventure. He got excited about 7in7 as soon as he heard about it and it is largely thanks to him that we have been able to get Dennis involved. Thanks to all who have helped make this possible. Now I just need to pray for fine weather so we can enjoy the flight of a lifetime down the west coast!
