Two Go Wild in the Waitaks….

The raisin thief!

The raisin thief!

With so much time away over the last few weeks I have had little chance to run in my favourite back yard spot, the Waitakere hills. So it was great to get out there at the crack of dawn today with good mate Wade. But I was a bit worried to see that Wade’s sole source of nutrition for our long run was a small pack of raisins that he had stolen from his kids’ lunch box – and we were determined that no children would be harmed in the making of the 7in7!

Luckily I had come better prepared and was armed with a fistful of Mule Bars – Wade took a liking to the Strudel one, but made me carry the lot – he hasn’t yet grasped what being a ‘support runner’ means I don’t think. Anyway, banter aside we had a great run in sloshy conditions and got ourselves thoroughly grubby over the course of 3 splendid hours. The Waitakeres really are a special place to go running and today was a timely reminder of that. I’ll be back out there during the week for the first of my super-long days that will now become a weekly feature of the training.

Thanks to Wade for a great morning out.
