No day can be described as perfect while my beloved, gorgeous wife is on the other side of the world, but today did come close. I was gently awoken this morning by the best son in the world bringing his dad a Father’s Day cup of tea, a perfectly prepared bowl of muesli & fruit and a home made breakfast smoothie. And…. a classic kiwiana present of plastic milk shake cups. Thanks Beinn – I can even forgive you the card that proclaimed me to be ‘The King of Farts’!

5 minutes in here? You've gotta be joking!
Then it was out for a long run on a drop-dead gorgeous early spring day. So it was a street and park run – not my favourite – but the sun was shining, the air was crisp and clear, and I could see for ever across the Gulf from the top of each of the volcanoes. It eneded up being a 34km loop, taking in 4 of the city’s iconic cones. But the best bit was seeing so many families out in the parks having a picnic, playing games and enjoying what seems to be the end of winter (hmmm, I wonder…). At the end of the run I decided to trial the much-talked-about-not-yet-done ice bath recovery – but I think I may have put one bag of ice too many in ‘cos man, it hurt! There again, could it really be a perfect day without a bit of pain?
Now just to cap it all off Beinn and I are off to good friends Greg & Karen for a lamb roast. Like I said, an almost perfect day….. if only Sal were here too!
