My own brush with leukaemia started 40 years ago with the death of my brother Alan. Over the intervening years I have of course encountered many more people whose lives have been broadsided by the illness. But since starting my 7in7 crusade in January this year I have met so many more affected people and heard so many moving tales of courage, redemtion and loss. The latest came just yesterday, accompanied by a very generous donation. Phil from Invercargill told me that he had just lost his uncle the day before to leukaemia. Phil’s message to me was “Another pair of silent feet will be running with you. Gain strength from them”. I found this particularly poignant and will be adding it to my list of inspirational messages that I will be carrying with me, and which I know WILL provide me with strength when (not if) the going gets tough! Thanks Phil and everyone else who have made this whole venture extra rewarding through their kind words.
