Thanks to everyone who gave their opinion via the recent poll that I ran on this site. I was rather taken aback by the comments of one “bockett” on my Yahoo!Xtra blog about running the Heaphy track… “Not more runners infesting the iconic walks of NZ….. How can you appreciate the beautiful scenery when you’re running or biking?” Seems the vast majority of you concur with my own point of view that “there’s more than one way to skin a cat” or, as Kant apparently said, in much more erudite fashion “each may seek his happiness in whatever way he sees fit, so long as he does not infringe upon the freedom of others to pursue a similar end”. Anyway, just 4 weeks from today I will be running the Heaphy regardless – bring it on!

Mal,
I missed that poll and not sure how I did that but I agree with you and the majority totally. I liked that quote – very erudite. As one that runs the tracks in the Waitaks on a regular basis and other places around the country I have seen far more that way than by car and if running is ones prefered way of travel then why not.
Good luck with the training and keep up the good work . Really appreciate and look forward to you messages .

I somehow missed that poll as well. How funny that people think you won’t enjoy the track if you’re running it! I personally always find any trail a more intense experience if I’m running it. Besides, it’s not going to disappear after you run it. You can always go back and walk it again if you feel you’re missing out on something!
