Paul, Maegan, me and Greg on Zion Hill Track overlooking the Tasman Sea
I’d better hope that my organisational skills improve within the next 3 weeks. I was being joined by 4 other runners today (Greg & Paul, both 7in7′ers) and Maegan and Pete (Guest Stars). I told half of them we would start at 8am and the other half that we’d start at 9am – hmmm, this doesn’t bode well! Anyway, after a brief consultation with the map we chose a route south to the far end of the Waitakere Ranges, doing it one way on muddy, hilly inland tracks and then returning via the soft sands of the beach – there really is very little easy running hereabouts. But how much easier it is to just enjoy your surroundings, forgetting the tiredness and aches, when there are other likeminded people around to share it with. I have done so much of my training (now totalling some 2,600kms) solo, so really have loved the last couple of days, even though the terrain is very familiar and well trodden by my running shoes. For the most part I felt good all through today’s run (a little over 5 hrs), with little sign that I had done a similarly hard one just yesterday. So far so good; I just hope the next 2 days feel similar.
Today I also used the very funky, very light and small Sanyo Xacti HD videcam for the first time. The equipment is brilliant (just sits unnoticed in your hand as you run along) but I fear my cinematography needs to go the same school that my organisational skills have been playing truant from. But here’s an attempt at least: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RC0sTs84ALw
