What do Mule Bars, Vegemite sandwiches, Peanut Butter & Honey sandwiches, biscotti, liquorice sticks, squashed fly biscuits, jet planes, rice crackers, ginger oat cakes, macadamia nuts, cashew nuts, almonds, dates, crystalised ginger and bananas all have in common? Answer… they’ve all been sloshing around together in my stomach during our epic 6 ½ hr run on Day 3 of the final training camp. Over 3 days and 17 hours of running I have taken just one squeezy carbo gel and am convinced that using these real, natural foods is the key to fuelling my way through the 7in7 Challenge. The other key factor is having a wide variety of foods that I know work on the runs, so each day I can pick and choose from only things that don’t turn my stomach when I look at them!

Yes, we did have to run over that next hill!
Today’s run was a spectacular, hilly tour of the southern Waitakeres taking in the glories of Karekare beach, the Pararaha valley, Whatipu and Huia. Two of my oldest and closest running buddies – Guy and Jeff – kept me company and the inane banter that is so sustaining on these epics flowed more freely than the orange juice at a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. A truly great day’s running as I hope these snippets of video will attest. Check out the following on You Tube:

Morena Mal,
3 weeks to go mate, it’s the big countdown now and am getting jittery just thinking about it. Hope you are feeling fit after your epic 4 days hard out training – sounds like you had good company though and it sure spurs you on with company (don’t I know it).
See you soon!
