Ultreya!

Dock Bay Lodge

Dock Bay Lodge, Te Anau - if only!

Yet again I have been humbled by the kind thoughts of strangers. Over the past few days I’ve had a flood of supportive emails from people previously unknown to me. Two more came today…. one from Friend of the Challenge Lay Lin who signed off with a hearty “Ultreya! Malcolm”, which in medieval Spanish apparently means “onward and upwards with faith”. And as Lay Lin explained “It is called out to encourage people on their journey – originally, to the very first travellers of the world - pilgrims - in their trials trying to make it to the end of their journey through the countryside littered with unknown dangers of those times – the elements, wild animals and bandits”. So very appropriate, although I hope not to encounter too many wild animals (other than perhaps a few weka and kea) or bandits (except 7in7 Support Runners) and I’m thinking of adopting it as a Challenge mantra.

Also today I received an invite to stay at the luxurious Dock Bay Lodge, Te Anau, at the end of the Kepler Challenge. This would have made a fantastic place to unwind after running 360km in 7 days, but alas we already have accommodation booked and paid for. Nevertheless, big thanks to owner Dawn for this wonderful gesture of goodwill.

And in other news…. I spent the morning with Dimi filming at Karekare. We got some stunning shots of my biomechanically challenged running style, set against a background of huge cliffs, serene sand dunes and crashing surf, on a beautiful blue sky day. Great footage that should show on Breakfast (TVNZ, Friday Nov 27th 8.40am) when I will also be interviewed live. Off now to buy some make up!

Hey there Malcolm, hope all is tracking nicely – all seems to be going to plan as your event gets inexorably closer…!!

Great guesture from Dock Bay Lodge. As you won’t be able to use it, do you think they would auction the night’s accom off to raise funds for you?

Mornign Mal – that was a late night post, hope you are getting your beauty sleep for the Breakfast Show interview. Lovely gesture from Dock Bay and a very apt mantra.
