One Down, Six to go

What a run … The anticipation was getting too much and it was fantastic to tick one race off the list. Waikaremoana is a tricky track to walk let alone run – technically it’s a challenge and with temperatures climbing in to the late 20′s it was tough. The run was definitely harder than I expected – but no injuries and still feeling strong. I was running with my support crew, Wade, Paul and Ash and as usual the breath taking scenery from the high bluff was enough to keep us rolling along at a good pace. The most incredible part was that word had obviously got around the tramping fraternity about “7 in 7″ and we were clapped and supported along the track… one couple actually shouted to us they had pledged a donation – how awesome is that! Now it’s time for some food and a bit of shut eye before we kick off run number two The Tongariro Northern Circuit. The weather God’s have been kind so far … fingers crossed. I’m definitely earning my keep, so keep the donations coming in, we’ve almost raised $61,000 …. your support is the fuel that is keeping me going.

What an awesome effort you and the team are putting in.
It must have been a pearler of a day up there – good ol Hawkes Bay turning it on for you. We tackled the Panukeri bluff last weekend in the LtoL event, and it is a fantastic place to be.
Good luck for the next 6 days.
Great Web site and thanks for keeping us so well informed of progress.

If there is another dimension to life I’m sure Alan is there with his SPOT cheering you on. If water helps transmit sound you might just hear the chant from across the pond “Run MAL Run”.

Phew! Heart stopping stuff just watching your progress on the tracker. Weather looking good for Wednesday so the helicopter will be ready and waiting. Just a minor one, I have no cell phone to call other than yours Mal. Don’t suppose there is coverage above Karemea anyway. See you at the bridge and I pray for good ankles all the way (and knees, hips and lungs) Don’t forget to listen to the birdsong- it’s God’s own music if you like that sort of thing. Keep it up mate! from Steve and Denis your chopper crew…
