Day 1: Twin Lakes Marathon – Hawea/Wanaka

Sunday November 28th

Start: Shores of Lake Hawea near Hawea township
Finish: Glendhu Bay on the shores of Lake Wanaka
Distance: As close as we can get to 42.2 kms – the official marathon distance
Ascent: Only about 200m, mostly late in the day.
Terrain: Most of the course consists of brand new, high quality, hard-packed gravel paths. Largely flat except for the last quarter of the run where the Millennium Track negotiates bluffs on the shore of Lake Wanaka.
Rating: Easy – Moderate. The closest to a road run that the 7in7 is ever likely to see!
Chosen because: It’s unbroken glorious scenery the whole way. Lakes Hawea and Wanaka are real gems and the high mountains that surround both are breathtaking in their beauty. Wanaka is a second home to me and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to stage a day that the whole local community can embrace and enjoy. Expect a big turnout for this one!
