Day 4: Wakatipu Wonderland

Wednesday December 1st

Start: Frankton Beach, shores of Lake Wakatipu
Finish: Glenorchy Road, near Wilson Bay (Lake Wakatipu again)
Distance: Approx. 38 kms
Ascent: Approx. 1,300m during the day. Highest point Lomond Saddle at 1,316m – although if the weather is good an ascent of Ben Lomond (1748m) might be too tempting to resist!
Terrain: A mix of good quality walking trail, rough single-track  and 4WD tracks. Long sections of exposed running
Rating: Hard.
Chosen because: This is set in NZ’s adventure tourism capital yet the vast majority of the run is over trails that most tourists never tread. The spectacular scenery and the lure of a mountain ascent (weather permitting) have me drooling at the prospect of this one.

Notes: This can only be run as a full day and is only suitable for fit, experienced trail runners.
