Day 5: Rees – Dart Circuit
Thursday December 2nd
Start: Dart Valley, 20 kms from Glenorchy
Finish: Chinamans Bluff, Rees Valley
Distance: Approx. 61 kms
Ascent: Approx. 1,400m during the day. Highest point Rees Saddle at 1,471m.
Terrain: Back-country tramping tracks, often rough and technical. Exposed over higher parts.
Rating: Very Hard – Extreme. This will be a long and exhausting day.
Chosen because: It’s a classic long-distance track in its own right and is world-renowned for the beauty of its surroundings. A real Alpine journey that somehow escaped the ‘Great Walk’ label – how I’ll never know.
Notes: This can only be run as a full day and is only suitable for fit, experienced trail runners.
