Having not slept through a huge storm that battered Te Anau all night long, I thought twice about taking on the mighty ascent to Luxmore Hut on the Kepler Track this morning. In fact I thought so long that it was midday, a coffee and a caramel & banana muffin before I started. Fond memories indeed from the last day of 7in7 2009, although on that occasion I swear the hill was only half as big. Could this be fast-track plate tectonics at work, or is it just the effect of running solo without mates to take your mind off the pain? One thing’s for sure though… the wind and rain on top was bone chilling. I was glad to take refuge in the hut for 15 mins before turning round and running back to town for a pie…. but oh cruel fate, the pie shop was closed! So a sandwich and a can of V to get me back to Wanaka without dozing off at the wheel. So great to be back running in this awesome land………..
