NZ takes up the Challenge

Auckland 'newbies' Sara, Nicole & Louise

The response of people from all over NZ continues to be hugely encouraging. I now have no fewer than 60 Registrations from people who are interested in joining a day or more of the adventure.

Not surprisingly, the most popular run is Day 1 – the Twin Lakes Marathon/Half Marathon around Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka. This is perfect for runners of all abilities and so far 30 people have signed up.

What I love is the fact that we have people of all ages and abilities, from all over the country, signing up. Runners from Invercargill, Dunedin, Timaru, Fairlie, Alexandra, Cromwell, Queenstown, Wanaka, Hawea, Christchurch, Nelson and Wellington are included. But despite the distance they have to travel to be a part of things it is Aucklanders who are making the biggest show of hands (or should that be ‘show of feet?) – no fewer than half of registrations are from the City of Sails.

Amongst the latest batch of enthusiastic young things are a team of 3 twenty-something girls from Auckland. Sara, Lou and Nicole have never run anything like the distance that they’ll be tackling on Day 4 – the awesome Wakatipu Wonderland run – so for them it is a huge commitment. They have consulted a coach, got the programme sorted and are intent to make it all the way to the finish line. Fantastic.
