Loved Ones, Stinging Nettles and Real Ale!

Regular subscribers to this blog may wonder why I haven’t posted anything for a few days now. Well, it’s because I’m in England on a lightning week-long trip…..

I admire and adore them - my mum & dad

LOVED ONES

My reason for being here is my parents. They are both suffering the ravages of old age. Dad is 88 and has Parkinson’s. Mum is 82 and it’s heartbreaking to watch her tenuous grip on reality slip away as dementia slowly robs her of her memories and her dignity. But they both show the most wonderful fighting spirit and today they celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary – 6o years of marriage! It was a very special day, well worth the jetlag to be here with them.

STINGING NETTLES

Although there’s been very little spare time I have managed to get out for a few short runs. My parents’ village is in the beautiful county of Devon and surrounded by a great network of footpaths. Ideal running country – except for the stinging nettles that are virulant at this time of year! Still, the stings to thighs and calfs help keep my mind off all the other niggles, none of which have been helped by the 26-hour journey over here in a big tin can.

REAL ALE

I’ve been staying in the village pub. And running makes me thirsty. The rest is obvious…..
