Join the Challenge
The success of the Challenge is totally dependent on recruiting people who are prepared to get out there, test their own limits and help raise funds for a very deserving cause. To reach the target of $150,000 it will take lots of you. My goal is to have more than a hundred runners involved across the week.

How far do I need to run?
We want the 7in7 Challenge to be accessible to people of all abilities and experience – it’s about ordinary people being part of an extraordinary adventure, not about a bunch of super-athletes with a point to prove!
So while some days will be a test for even the fittest of runners, Day 1 has been planned to provide options for a more relaxed experience.
The table below gives you some idea of what to expect on each run. To see more detail on any day just click on that day
| Day | Location | Distance & Rating | Options |
| One: Nov 28th | Lakes Hawea and Wanaka, C.Otago | 42 kms Easy – Moderate | Shorter options of 10kms+ will be available for individuals. Can also be run as a Relay Team. |
| Two: Nov 29th | Young – Wilkin Circuit | 55 kms Very Hard – Extreme | No shorter options |
| Three: Nov 30th | Motatapu Gold | 49 kms Extreme | No shorter options |
| Four: Dec 1st | Wakatipu Wonderland | 38 kms Hard | No shorter options |
| Five: Dec 2nd | Rees – Dart Circuit | 61 kms Very Hard -Extreme | No shorter options |

What’s expected of me – before?
The 7in7’s primary goal is to RAISE MONEY FOR THE LEUKAEMIA & BLOOD FOUNDATION NZ.
So I ask all participants to be willing to fundraise on behalf of this great cause. What you are setting out to do will inspire your friends, family & colleagues and so getting their support should be easy. I will make it a doddle for you by providing you with your own online Fundraising page and tips on how to run an effective fundraising campaign.
It is hoped that all participants will raise a minimum of $400 each.
And as an added incentive we will be putting up some awesome prizes for our top fundraisers – details to follow once we’ve twisted the arms of a few more commercial sponsors!
What’s expected of me – during?
The most important feature of the 7in7 is its spirit – remember it’s about ordinary people being part of an extraordinary adventure. This means:
- It is NOT a race (although that option is available for entrants to the Twin Lakes Marathon on Day 1 and Kepler Challenge on Day 7)
- Taking photos, having fun and sharing the experience is more important than how long it takes
- Runners will stick together and help one another as necessary
- Days 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6: only limited outside support is available so we will need to carry pretty much everything that is required for a long, safe day in the hills.
- You are ultimately responsible for your own safety
- You will be responsible for getting yourself to the start line and from the finish line. We may be able to help with transport but don’t count on it. Be prepared to call on friends or family to help out.
What’s expected of me – after?
I hope you will feel immense satisfaction from climbing your own personal Everest while helping the thousands of New Zealanders suffering from leukaemia with their fight against this cruel illness.
I hope you will share the experience – over a drink, through photos, maybe via a blog or Facebook – so that others will be inspired to take on the next 7in7 Challenge in 2011.
What will it cost?
With the exception of the Kepler Challenge (Day 7) there will be no compulsory fee for taking part in the 7in7 Challenge 2010.
However, the costs involved are substantial and it is a struggle to cover them all through commercial sponsorship arrangements. You will therefore be asked to consider a voluntary contribution of $50 to join one of the runs. Details of how to make this contribution will be provided upon confirmation of your participation.
There will also be 7in7-branded running gear (tops, caps etc) available for purchase by those who really want to look the part.
